History

Villa Cielomare has been rebuilt in the 1980s on the remains of an old mill dating back to the 17th century. For centuries olive trees, chestnut trees and cereals have been produced on the terraces of the Portofino Park as part of a feudal system organized and maintained by the monks of the San Fruttuoso abbey.

Along the Portofino mountain, an extraordinary concentration of mills and presses (35 in the middle of the 18th century) were established to prepare the harvest for local storage and consumption. Cielomare represents today one of the few remaining archaeological, agricultural and industrial testimonies of these times.
